Here are some basic tips for making your performance the very best that you can.
1) WATCH THE MOVIE! This is the best thing that you can do. Watch the movie and mimic what you are seeing. Make sure that if you are doing something exactly from the movie, you reverse it from what you are watching. A good tip for this, watch the movie in a mirror then you can practice along with it without having to reverse everything in your head.
2) Stay in character. Make sure that you are not just being yourself, you need to make each character you play different. You need to find out how that person walks, how that person thinks, etc. If you have questions on this, ask. We will find someone who can help you out.
3) Be prepared. Make sure that you know which parts you are playing. If the cast list has not been posted yet, text a manager or cast member to ask what your parts are. There are sometimes changes made at the last minute, so double-check before you leave for the show. Make sure that you have your costumes when you are supposed to have them. This includes dress rehearsals. If it is the rehearsal before the show and you are playing a new role, you need to bring your costume to that rehearsal. If you have a different costume than the one(s) that you had last time, you need to bring them to that rehearsal. Make sure that you do your hair and makeup for the show, and pitch in for your pre-show duties.
4) Try. The best thing you can do is try. YOU have to ask if you don't know a part, we don't keep track of which parts you have and have not played. You have to take the initiative on your costumes. If you don't have a costume piece that you need and you don't have the money to get it, you need to ask cast members if they have something you can borrow. If you can't find it that way, you need to let the stage manager know a WEEK before the show so that parts can be shuffled around to something you DO have the costume for.
5) Don't stray from screen accuracy. Other cast members might do some gags, but you should always strive for accuracy. As a probationary cast member, we need to see that you actually know these roles, so play them accurately.
6) Don't waste rehearsal time. Ask questions, get to know people. If you are not needed for the main rehearsal right then, ask someone who is free to go over parts that you are unclear about.
