1. STEALING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! THIS IS YOUR ONE AND ONLY WARNING! This includes stealing from the cast, the performance venues (the Lakewood and elsewhere), and other cast members. If you are caught violating this rule, you will be immediately dismissed from cast. NO EXCEPTIONS.
2. No illegal drugs. Do not show up high. Do not bring drugs to anything cast-related. If you are caught violating this rule, disciplinary action will be taken (see rule 13).
3. You may not be drunk on cast time. You may have a drink or two, but if you become inebriated, even slightly, you will be asked to leave the show/rehearsal. If this becomes a recurring problem, you will be asked to leave cast.
4. No sex on cast time.*
5. Cast business may not be discussed with audience or non-cast. Keep your mouth shut about turmoil within cast or plans the cast has until you are told you are allowed to talk about them publicly.
6. You must be a minimum of 18 years old to join cast (17 years on a person-to-person basis).
7. Meetings/rehearsals/shows: You must let a board member** know ahead of time if you are going to miss a meeting, rehearsal, or show. "Ahead of time" means a minimum of 48 hours with exception for emergencies (illness, car accident, family emergency, etc.). If you miss five within one year without advance notice, you will be asked to leave cast. Additionally, if you are constantly having “emergencies,” disciplinary action may be taken (see rule 13).
8. No sleeping at cast meetings.
9. No arguing with performance venue employees. Be courteous to all employees at any venue. If you are having major issues with an employee of a venue, talk to a board member** and he/she will attempt to resolve the issue.
10. Individuals attempting to join cast will have a probationary period of two months (must be present at four performances).
a. After the 2nd performance, the cast will discuss the abilities, interactions, and performance of the probationary member, after which the member will be given advice by a manager on what he/she needs to improve upon and where he/she is excelling.
b. After the 4th performance, the cast will again discuss the probationary member's attributes and take a vote, majority yes/no. If the vote is decided yes, the member will be given full member access. Otherwise, the probationary member will be asked to leave and may try again after a 6 month interval.
11. Good personal hygiene is required. SHOWER! BRUSH YOUR TEETH! Wear deodorant and clean clothes. If you fail to do this, you will be asked to leave the show/rehearsal. If this is a recurring problem, disciplinary action will be taken (see rule 13).
12. Removal of a cast member/removal of a board member** from office: Any cast member may be voted off if he/she becomes a recurring problem. Any cast member may move to remove another. Both people will be allowed to speak their minds on the matter before the rest of the cast and an anonymous ballot will be taken.
a. Addendum on removal of a board member from office: if three of the board members feel the fourth board member is not performing his/her duties or is a detriment to the well-being of the cast, they can remove the other board member and hold a new election. This must be a unanimous decision among the first three board members.
b. An individual cannot move to have the same person removed from the cast or board office more than once a year.
c. If you are removed from cast, you may try out for cast one more time after a period of six months.
d. If the board receives complaints from 25% of the cast members about an individual, the board will move to have the person removed from the cast.
13. Disciplinary action entails a meeting with the board members to discuss the issues you are having. The board will then deliberate among themselves. They may decide to suspend you, give you a formal warning, remove you from any core roles you have, ban you from auditioning for theme shows or core roles, or take a cast vote on cast member removal.
14. To hold a core role, you must be able to commit to being present at 75% of all meetings, rehearsals and shows.
15. If you are out representing the cast, you must be 21 years old to drink and have a valid ID on you. If you are seen drinking underage when representing the cast, disciplinary actions will be taken (see rule 13).
16. At least 2/3 of the cast must be present for voting purposes.
17. Taking a break from cast: Sometimes you need more than a single show or rehearsal off, which is fine. By taking a hiatus, you have the time off without losing your core roles. You must be on cast for at least 6 months before you are able to take a hiatus.
a. You must define your hiatus. In other words, you must give cast a date that you are planning to return so that we can plan accordingly.
b. You may come back early from a hiatus.
c. You may extend your hiatus once. If you do not come back after you extend your hiatus, you will be automatically removed from cast.
d. If you decide you want to come back to cast after removal because of extended hiatus, you may audition to join again. At this point, you will be treated as a new cast member and will be expected to audition again for any core roles you want to hold.
e. You may take 1 hiatus with one extension or 2 hiatuses with no extensions in one rolling calendar year.
f. You may not exceed 3 months of hiatus time in one rolling calendar year.
18. No drama on cast time.* The definition of "drama" will be left up to the judgement of the board members.**
19. No food or drinks are allowed in the auditorium. The only exceptions to this are resealable containers (no open cups, cups with straws, or cans), and water.
20. Do not touch any of the tech equipment unless you are properly trained by the Tech Manager.
*Cast time is defined as the following:
- During shows/rehearsals
- When representing the cast at an event
- When on the property of the theater or other performance venue (including the parking lot)
**A "board member" is one of the four managers: Marketing Manager, Tech Manager, Stage Manager, and Inventory Manager.
