I hear a lot of questions about what to do for ensemble characters, so here's a bit of help for everybody complete with pictures. These are guidelines for a straight, movie-accurate version. You can do different things if you want (many cast members have cosplayed specific characters depending on their roles, such as Zander using Pyramid Head as a Night Surgeon Repo Man, Ben did FF8 Seifer for GENEcop complete with gunblade, etc.). If you're going to vary from the movie, at least pick something that fits the role. Added by Ali: "And be sure to clear your idea with the stage manager!"
Zydrate Addict/ Scalpel Slut:
Look crazy, wear something you would never wear out to, say, Wal-Mart or a family reunion, or at least combinations of things that are just far-out, bizarre, bright, punk, metal, raver, cyber goth, or any combination of said fashions. Looking like a hooker works too. Added by Ali: "Make sure you're not just wearing a bra and panties - they can be visible, but throw on some other clothing pieces too, and that means real clothes - not just fishnets."
GENEcop:
Black, EVERYTHING BLACK, no *blue* jeans, please. Long sleeves/jacket/coat, no exposed arms. Boots (combat boots, at least mid-calf is preferable, but anything big and tough looking and black), no tennis shoes PLEASE. If you have gloves, wear 'em.
They all wear helmets, (ask and we may have extras, but they are normally all in use, use some kind of black headgear if you can, any type of hat or beanie or whatever should be okay as long as it's black), and some type of goggle/face-mask combination. Don't have a fully exposed face, please. Even sunglasses are better than nothing. They carry big guns with flashlights, and cast ALWAYS has extra weapons if you don't have anything. But if you have a big gun with a light, BONUS POINTS! Further items to add to your look but not really required are: elbow pads, knee pads, tactical vest/ gear, and geneco patches.
If you look like you're ready to join the SWAT team, you're in good shape!
Luigi's Sanatarium Square assistant and victim:
Looks like a waiter/valet parking guy. White shirt, vest, black pants. Bonus points for bowtie.
GENterns:
Added by Ali: "I have made screen-accurate dresses from the actual screen-used fabric for many of the regular GENterns on cast, and I'm slowly working on finishing up more. Ask me and I may be able to recommend someone close to your size you could ask to borrow a dress from, or you can get on the dress waiting list. Or you can make your own - screen-used fabric is not required, but it must at least be in an accurate style - no cutting up a t-shirt and calling it good. Cast provides the red face masks and red fishnet gloves / cheesecloth for Testify. Shoes are Dolly-93 by Pleaser, usually available for $30-$40 online but sometimes you can find sales."
Talk to other Genterns about getting the correct shoes (very important), and red masks (very important). Specific dress pattern, you won't be able to buy something and wear it without some type of modification. The fabric actually resembles diamond textured metal (like you see on pickup trucks), but is likely difficult to find.
I beg you to not wear a typical bra for the normal gentern costume, the straps showing are a total eyesore. There's also ways to pull the straps together to hide them, that works too...but I, personally, am always sad to see exposed bra straps. IT'S SO INCORRECT!
Testify! costume is white bra & panties, white fishnet leggings, red fishnet gloves that only reach the wrist (hardest item to find imo), and cheesecloth tied around your body in some form or fashion. Our GENterns seemed to have adopted a uniform style of tieing around the waist, but the movie ones actually have different ways of using the cheesecloth. Drawing scars on your body is also a bonus, but no one usually bothers.
Bandleader
This guy:
Testify Band
Full black costumes, sleeveless (I think they wear vests), various types of hats for males, and gold masks. Also, some type of instrument, don't care what. Females seem to wear dresses similar to Shilo's opera dress. Added by Ali: "Cast provides the gold masks. Ask around if you don't have a real/fake instrument to use and someone may have one you can borrow; we have been known to use air guitars and air keyboards before, but physical instruments are preferable."
Eunuchs
Black sunglasses, black shinguards used as arm bracers (I have 2 pair that are kinda crappy that I always bring, if I make them better I'll donate to cast), black tight pants (what's up with all the slacks/baggy stuff, guys? C'mon, you gotta ADVERTISE!), black combat boots or equivalent, and the straps (actually made of elastic, but leather works too. There's usually a couple of these floating around between me and Justin and other typical Eunuchs). Black chokers (something I've never remember to get). They also have barcode tattoos on the right side of their chest that nobody cares about. Try to look as uniform as possible with the other person playing Eunuch opposite you:
Henchgirls:
Sunglasses, high ponytail, blue lipstick, suit jacket, black SHORT shorts, right leg gun holster, high collar button up white shirt, full body fishnets, pump action shotgun, tall black boots. I also JUST noticed they have a black shinguard (like the eunuch's armguards) on their right bicep.
Night Surgeon Repo Men
The cue to come out on stage is as soon as Nathan stands up and begins his monologue, and you'll hear the music shift. There are so many ways you can do this. Ways of doing it wrong include: Totally exposed face (MAKES ME ANGRY! LUIGI SMASH!), normal everyday clothes (c'mon at least put more effort into it than jeans and a T-shirt), guns (Not a single Repo Man carries a gun, not a very effective reposession tool) and military/cop looks (then you just look like a GENEcop!). Black is actually not a requirement for these guys, for the most part. A lot of them have a lot of brown to their costumes, and subtle hints of color. One even has a denim trenchcoat with red lining.
Here's the gallery showing all of the different Repo Men, they are seriously badass motherfuckers, so do your best to look like a badass motherfucker:

Transie:
If you want specifics, LOOK HERE: www.rockyhorrorcostumelist.info/anltran.html
That page includes both a "general" transie costume and specific character ones if you are interested in being an actual transie seen in the movie. I'll copy the general part here for simplicity sake. Added by Ali: "Mandatory cast transie costume is black suit jacket, black pants, white socks, black shoes, and a button-down shirt in whatever color/style you like. Then go crazy accessorizing with hats, wigs, vests, ties, cummerbunds, gloves, sunglasses, fun makeup, whatever - cast owns a couple boxes with accessories you can borrow, or you can use your own. You are free to use the following guide to look even more like the movie, though:"
Black tailcoats – All the Transylvanians wear the same basic style of black jacket, though the lapel length and color, number of buttons, and presence or absence of tails varies with each Transylvanian. The lapel length varies from chest-length to just above the waist. As far as I can tell, all the Trannies’ jackets have peak lapels without buttonholes. The center front below the lapels slopes diagonally downward toward the hips. It looks like the jackets are not meant to be closed in front. The jackets have long sleeves, but most of them are short enough to show the Trannies’ shirt cuffs. Some of the jackets look like they have separate cuffs as well (not very noticeable), and some of the sleeves have buttons, which indicates a sleeve vent and probably a two-piece (upper and under) sleeve. A few of the Trannies’ jackets do not have tails, but are pointed down at the center back as though adding tails would be the next step. The tails’ ends are rounded (swallowtail, like Columbia’s, but most are wider than hers), and the transition from tail to jacket is pretty much abrupt, although more gradual than Columbia’s. Some of the jackets have two buttons (color varies) placed horizontally above the tails. I can’t tell if there is a center back seam on the jackets, but it would make the jackets more fitted and the placement of the tails would be easier.
Black satin armbands with a gold lightning bolt – Worn on right upper sleeve. The armbands are about 2 ½ inches wide.
Black pants – Satiny and pretty tight, though loose enough around the ankles to flare over the socks. Pants have side seams and a separate waistband. I’m not sure how they fasten, but definitely not a front fly zip.
White socks – Mid-calf length. Ribbed, worn pulled up over pants. Crew socks are less likely to slip around than tube socks.
Black patent leather shoes – Male and female Trannies wear different styles. The men (and Fran Fullenwider) have flats with about a ½ inch heel and rounded toe with just a slight point. It looks like there are rectangular grosgrain ribbon bows on the toes. Bows are about one inch long and two inches wide. No ankle straps. The women have open-toed high heels with ankle straps and gold (?) rectangular buckles. The open toe is sort of a rounded diamond shape, with the opening going almost to the vamp. The heels are triangular: widest (about 2 inches) at the top and narrowing to about ½ inch at the bottom. The sides of the shoes are open, and the heel is covered. All the women except Fran wear this style of shoe except Sadie Corre, who (according to Larry Viezel) wore her own shoes because the studio didn’t have any that fit her. Sadie wears black leather open-toed strappy flat sandals. A strap goes down the top of the foot from the ankle to the toe, and two straps intersect with it across her foot—sort of a modified T-strap. There is also an ankle strap which goes around her foot to the heel.
Miscellaneous – Trannies wear shirts with very ‘70’s collars. Instead of pointing forward, they point out. I believe this is called a “spread” collar. As far as I can tell, all the Trannies wear their top buttons closed, so the collars make two isosceles triangles (shortest side facing neck) when seen from the front. Some of the Trannies wear their collars turned up.
Since tailcoats can be expensive and hard to find, any black suit jacket is acceptable. Look classy!
